About Me

I am the CEO of the charity Rooted In, founder and director of The Sugar Snap Kitchen group of social enterprises and founder of Rooted In Homes Community Land Trust.

When I started working for the charity we had two staff delivering a handful of childrens projects in our community of Allerton and Lower Grange, Bradford. Over the past 11 years the orgnaisation has grown significantly in its activities and ambition. We currently have a team of 10 employees and 50+ volunteers across the orgnaisations and a turnover of £450k+.

We have recently secured a logn term lease on a vacant victorian vicarage which we will be refurbishing into a new charity HQ and living accomodation. Just this October we have opened our second coffee shop in CAPS new HQ here in Bradford.

About My Project

The project I presented as part of The Lions was our community led housing project. The idea seems a simple one, local people designing and building local homes that meet local need.

Locally one of the biggest barriers holding families back was the lack of affordale and quality homes. The stark reality of our observations were plain to see over the Covid lockdowns, home is the most improtant building and place for families.

Working with local specialists we have developed a masterplan which is as much a statement of our ideology as well as a presentation of ours and our communities aspirations for a housing development.
