About Me

Hello! I come from an Art & Design background and began my journey within the high end fashion industry creating visual displays for various store fronts. I then moved into education after having my 2nd daughter and have never looked back! I have worked as a Behaviour consultant and Safeguarding Lead for over 16 years focusing on students who find mainstream school challenging. Alongside this, I nurtured my childhood passion for baking and cake decoration and opened ‘A Slice Of Nice’ cake company which has been in operation for 20 years. I enjoy creating life like cakes for a wide range of clients including celebrities.

About My Project

My project will bridge the gap between school exclusions and a positive educational experience for young people. I plan to open ‘A Slice Of Nice’ school of Cake Art that will work in cohesion with mainstream schools. We will give students at risk of exclusion the chance to gain nationally recognised qualifications in cake design and business management, providing them with the skills required to start their own businesses or gain employment in this field.

I recognise the need for a change in the National curriculum where all abilities are catered for. Far too many students are unable to achieve expected targets but are not encouraged to pursue vocational subjects that will build life skills and push creative flair.
I have devised a short course aimed to build self esteem, improve school attendance and promote positive behaviour which has been used as a pilot in one school and then purchased by a further 5 secondary schools due to the successful turn around and improvement in their students.

The therapeutic benefits to cake decorating have been proven to increase self esteem, enhance wellbeing, improve focus and in some cases can be used as a tool to aid trauma recovery.
